Itasca Little Bluestem

            Itasca Little Bluestem is a medium height warm season grass that is used in pastures for livestock and wildlife as well as in erosion control and landscaping projects. It’s a grass with coarse stems and basal leaves. It has very flat bluish basal shoots and the plants are mostly green but often purplish at the base of the stem. Little bluestem is readily grazed by livestock, deer and elk and also suitable for hay. Its ability to adapt to many soil conditions it is a useful component in re-vegetation mixtures. The blue green leaves in the growing season and the rusty color with white fluffy seed heads in the fall make it and great addition to ornamental plantings.
